Wow! I drop out for a few weeks and people show up! Maybe there's something to this blog thing after all.

I agree--since I haven't been able to get a studded-tire setup running, there's a spare day now and then when I have to deal with public transportation. This winter has been all about the clothes, so next winter can be about the fancy tires.

Once in a while skipping the ride is okay, but I find that if I go more than a few days, I start getting a little depressed and lazy. I hate that feeling, which has only given me more motivation to get serious about being out all year.

Great post. I've recently become a year rounder, and have long since enjoyed other similar manifestos... but shouldn't the 'proletariat' in this case be something more like "pedaltariat" or "rolletariat?" dunno, maybe it's too much. But you've got a couple of amusing posts going here that I agree with.

The Art of Urban Cycling is an excellent book and I highly recommend it.

The last spill I took on my bike was when attempting to ride on pure ice-covered roads. That was the day I learned that biking is an organic approach to commuting, and that every once in a while walking or public transportation need not be completely shunned! How do you handle the days that biking is not an option?
